Hi everyone. I know it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s been a long time since you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve heard\nfrom the Alumni Board, and I wanted to fill you in on what we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve been doing to\ntry to prepare for whatever comes next regarding COVID-19 and other\ndevelopments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The College completed its spring semester in early May under\na remote learning environment. There were no reported cases of coronavirus on\ncampus, and that includes the members of Phi Kappa Sigma. Thankfully, I have\nnot heard of any cases among family members of the undergrad brothers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A few Chapter House residents remained in the house after\nthe end of classes, since they felt doing so was less of a health risk for\nthemselves and their families than returning home. The Alumni Corp. supported them\nin this decision, and most of these residents have since returned home, with\ntwo planning to stay in the house for most of the summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Alumni Corp. is currently planning for various\nscenarios. As I write this, we don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t yet know whether we will have any brothers\nliving in the Chapter House in the fall, or the spring, or whether the College\nmay allow a limited number of students to live there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rent represents more than 80% of our operating income each\nyear. We currently have a good cash position, but that status won\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t hold if\nwe\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re not able to collect any rent, or only a limited amount. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s extremely\nunlikely that we will receive any financial assistance from National, the\nCollege, the City, or our insurance carrier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the onset of the global pandemic, we were not able to\nconduct Phoneathon this year. We know that with unprecedented health concerns,\nhistoric unemployment rates, and a confluence of other social issues demanding\nyour attention, this is not the best time to ask for contributions, but the\nfact is that we need the help of our alumni now more than ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If there are no in-person classes in the fall, we need to prepare for a shortfall in rental income of $36,000<\/strong> for the fall\u00e2\u20ac\u201dand possibly the same number for the spring. We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re therefore setting a fundraising goal of $20,000<\/strong> to help mitigate these losses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n As always, we ask only for whatever you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re able to give, and simply that you contribute something.
