It is with great sadness that I report the loss of John L. Finlayson ‘65.
For those of you who did not know of John’s contributions to Zeta Chapter, he is the key reason the Fraternity survived from the 1970s through today. Officially, he served as treasurer and president of the Alumni Corp. for many years, but his contributions extend much further.
Most people are unaware of how generous John was with his time and resources. He personally took on many expenses associated with the Chapter House and interceded on the chapter’s behalf on countless occasions.
John was not in the best of health over the last few years, and he passed away on Aug. 3. His family has held a private ceremony, due to the rise in Covid numbers, but will be planning a public celebration of his life at a later date.
In his obituary, his family has asked that any gifts in his memory be made to the following organizations:
MA & PA Railroad Preservation Society
The Alumni Corp. has made a donation to Crispus Attucks York in his memory and will be honoring him during our Homecoming alumni exec board meeting.
I will personally miss John’s kindness, patience, and optimistic attitude. His memory will live on through his friends, loved ones, and Fraternity brothers.
Fraternally,
Brad
